I get why you’d think Hollywood has hit rock bottom- this announcement made people lose their faith in humanity. A play-doh movie? Are they serious? Maybe I’ve lost my mind but I think it could great. But here me out before you exit out and say I’m clinically insane.

Hasbro is trying to venture into new territory- their bringing the toy isle to Hollywood. And while there’s a lot of new developments that I’m not a fan of (a Peep movie!?!?), this is something I could get behind. And that’s because of one name: Paul Feig. He’s worked on Bridesmaids and has made every Melissa McCarthy flick. He’s just signed on to reboot Ghostbusters and I think it’s a good thing he’s going to be the creative voice for this project. He’s funny and he knows how to mold (get it?) a successful movie.

A lot of people have been defending this movie by saying it could be the next LEGO Movie. We all thought the LEGO Movie was going to suck but it turned out to be brilliant. This isn’t going to be the same. They might try to make it have the same feel but these two projects are going to be different. There’s a lot you can do with lego blocks but there’s not much you can do with a mound of clay. Or is there? While they say it’s going to be a live-action movie, a stop motion claymation film would be a lot of fun. But I guess that doesn’t really apply to Play-Doh it just makes it about a world made out of clay. But I don’t know how they can make it about the molders and NOT the clay.

Feig (whose famous for making female comedians stars) will probably get Kristen Wiig or Melissa McCarthy to sign on to the film as a favor. But if this is live-action, this will be a cast of kids, right? They can’t get big names to voice their characters because it turns out this isn’t animated. Which is really frustrating because I think that if this wasn’t live-action (if it was a stop motion claymation movie) it could be really great.

I can see why you’re reluctant to jump on board but I think this has SOME potential. I’m not saying it’s going to be amazing but I am saying to have an open mind. I’m not against the idea, but I’m not really excited about the idea. But who knows, maybe in a couple of years, when Etch A Sketch: The Movie comes out, will look back on all this and laugh.
