Misty Copeland is arguably the most mainstream principle dancer today. In the past two years, she’s gotten a viral Under Army campaign, a book deal, a documentary, a Barbie, and a dozen magazine covers. She’s landed iconic roles in ballets on stage and now she’s making a leap to the big screen. Misty Copeland is set to join Disney’s live-action Nutcracker and the Four Realms. She’ll play the only dancing role- most likely the Sugar Plum Fairy. She is the best pick from the ballet community to put on screen. She’s got a strong fan base and adds needed diversity. It’s strange that there won’t be more dancers involved in a movie based on a classical ballet but Disney knows how to make a live-action movie into a blockbuster. Nutcracker and the Four Realms is in pre-production and will likely be released Winter 2017.
