Melissa McCarthy’s grabbed a flotation device if/when Ghostbusters becomes an embarrassing disaster. She’s signed on to replace Julianne Moore in Can You Ever Forgive Me? telling the real life story of a woman that forged the signatures of celebrities to make ends meet. It seems like a weak attempt to redo Identity Thief and we’re not sure how they can make a movie out of a mildly interesting character description. We would’ve liked to see Julianne Moore in a comedy but we understand why she’d back out and McCarthy would step in. This is familiar material for the comedian but we would’ve liked to see her sign up for a stronger, bolder premise. This movie might not keep her adrift.
