This year’s VMAs were controversial, but was it popular? According to early reports, viewership dropped 5 percent from last year and 22 percent from 2013’s show. But these numbers don’t mean too much. Streaming of the show went up by 155 percent, which isn’t actually that impressive considering the small number that watched last year’s show online. What is impressive, though, is that last night’s award show was the most-tweeted program of 2015 (besides the Super Bowl). Thanks to Kanye announcing a run for President and Nicki Minaj cursing out Miley Cyrus, the show generated 21.4 million tweets. So the internet really helped this years VMAs look good to execs. Despite the slight drop, its still as strong as ever. And by that we mean as controversial as ever. #Kanye2020!!!
