Right when we were getting tired of Melissa McCarthy, she makes the best comedy of the year. Spy is absolutely fantastic. McCarthy knocks it out of the park. It’s the best of her career (yes, even better than Bridesmaids). This movie is not just the best female driven comedy, it’s one of the funniest movies we’ve ever seen. McCarthy’s erased the bad taste of Tammy and reinvigorated her career. What’s even more surprising to us is that the movie was not only hilarious, but thrilling. It was a true action-packed spy movie. The entire cast nailed it. Rose Byrne and Jude Law really stood their own against McCarthy, while Miranda Hart made her triumphant movie debut (she’s known for her beloved U.K. sitcom). All across the board, Spy deserves our praise. It certainly deserved it’s R rating (there was an F bomb every other line), but it also deserved it’s staggering 95% on Rotten Tomatoes (which usually despises comedies). Across the board, critics and fans love this film. McCarthy might be one note, but it works. With Spy, Melissa McCarhty’s proven that she’s not going anywhere. And for one of the first times, we’re glad she’s not. Bring it on Ghostbusters.
