STAR WARS vs AVENGERS: Highest Grossing Movie of 2015

In the next year, we’ll be getting two of the most anticipated movies of all time- Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This year is expected to be the biggest for blockbusters. Both are guaranteed to cross the billion-dollar mark but the question is, which will be the highest grossing movie of 2015?

The short answer: Star Wars. Age of Ultron is a juggernaut that will make a ridiculous amount of money but it’s kicking off a summer movie season that’s overcrowded. Star Wars can take the slot of The Hobbit movies and just print money for months. Just like American Sniper was able to top the box office in January and February, Star Wars will destroy the box office for the first few months of 2016. There’s no serious threat in sight until Batman V Superman in May. Age of Ultron doesn’t have a blank calendar. It’ll have to fight for cash with big, big blockbusters that come week after week.

While we’ve seen two Marvel movies every year since 2009, we haven’t seen a new Star Wars film for a decade. It’s going to be an event like none other. The anticipation for this film cannot be controlled. Star Wars fans are loyal enough to come back and see it again and again. The average fan saw The Phantom Menace five times. That’s insane. If that was the reaction to a bad movie, imagine the support for a good movie. If this is the Star Wars film fans want it to be, the word of mouth will generate millions for the movie months after its premiere. Star Wars will stay in theaters for months. It’ll make more money than Age of Ultron but really, both are going to make absurd amounts of money so really they both win. Right?
