Chappie, which was expected to make around $13 million, barely crossed $5 million on Friday. The low budget Indie film also didn’t get that great of reviews. Some blame the misleading ad campaign but Director Neill Blomkamp is also guilty. In interviews, instead of promoting Chappie, the director was gushing about Aliens (his next high-profile project). This marks the lowest debut of the director’s career. The movie’s going to need to make up for it oversees to match investor’s expectations. It could still do it, but with poor reviews it’ll be hard. It looks like Chappie will just be a film we forget.
