Dancing With the Stars, in an attempt to attract a younger demographic, have fired Harold Wheeler and his 28 person live band which has been bringing music to the show for seventeen seasons. “We feel that there are some types of music and types of songs, a lot of modern music particularly, is so produced that it’s impossible for a 28-piece band to replicate the sounds,”said an ABC producer in a statement. Replacing them will likely be a smaller electric band that can better replicate current songs. While it’s sad to see the 70 year old conductor get fired, we think it is a move they will have to make to compete. Dancing With the Stars is a popular show but slowly declining as it’s age demographic is usually 50 or above. To survive, they have to adapt to the edgier shows of current pop culture. I think it is a step forward that may make the show go in the right direction.
